Research Field : Natural Hazards and Disaster risks
Research outline:
I am a specialist of high-energy flows on planetary surfaces: tsunamis, debris flows, pyroclastic-flows and floods. I am interested in their complex interaction on volcanic islands, submarine volcanoes and as well as their interactions with coastal cities. Because Japan is facing a population and climate change at the same time, the interaction between hazards and society is going to present new challenges, which need research to meet them. For new generations to be able to meet those challenges, I teach and share this passion at the University but also with high-school students and communities through diverse community engagement project.
