About Joint Usage/Education Center of MEXT, Marine Site

Marine Site, Kobe University Research Center for Inland Seas(KURCIS) is certified as Joint Usage/Education Center of MEXT(Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology-Japan) from Apr.2019 until Mar.2024.

Purpose

In order to understand the biodiversity and ecology of coastal areas and the environmental problems that are characteristic of coastal urban areas, and to make efforts to manage and improve them, it is necessary to study a wide range of academic fields such as biology, earth science, and environmental science. It is necessary to have a perspective and a wide range of knowledge about non-living environments such as bottom sediment and seawater, in addition to various biological environments such as plankton, benthos, and seaweed. It is also important to have a cross-sectional and integrated understanding of not only the sea, but also the freshwater environment such as rivers and lakes in the catchment area, the estuary, and the sea. Therefore, at this center, we aim to widely provide undergraduate and graduate students in Japan and overseas with cross-scale educational programs ranging from basic biology to ecology.
