Workshop on Macroalgal Culturing Techniques


Period: From 19 to 21 February, 2018

Participants: Six students from four universities including Kagoshima University, Keio University, Sungkyunkwan University and Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology.

‘Workshop on Macroalgal Culturing Techniques’ was held from 19 to 21 February 2018. A total of 6 graduate students from four countries (Japan, South Korea, Philippines and Malaysia) attended the course. The course was conducted in English. The course was consisted of field sampling, isolation of unialgal culture strains from macroalgal vegetative tissues and reproductive cells, preparation of culture media, methods for maintenaning macroalgal cultures, and cryopreservation method of macroalgal cultures. The course was conducted at the Marine Site at Iwaya (lecture and field sampling) and Rokkodai Campus of Kobe University (practices for culture methods).
