Am I Yokokohji or Yokokoji?
Sorry for such confusion. Many people assume that my family name in English is "Yokokoji", which is the default conversion from my Japanese family name based on the Hepburn system. But, I have been using "Yokokohji" as my family name in English, having 'h' between 'o' and 'j'.
When I was a master course student, I decided to use "Yokokohji" that may give a closer pronunciation to the prolonged sound in my family name than "Yokokoji". But it was the beginning of confusion.
At that time, computer login name in UNIX systems was limited within eight characters. So, I reluctantly used "yokokoji", removing 'h' character. Since then, my email address is "yokokoji". However, I have been always using "Yokokohji" for my family name in the literatures. This mismatch has been causing much confusion. I should have decided to use "Yokokoji" from the beginning, but it might cause additional confusion if I changed my family name now. Maybe, changing email address would be less confusing.
As of January 2008, I have changed my e-mail address as yokokohji(AT)me.kyoto-u.ac.jp. I hope the confusion may settle down in the future.
As of Nobember 2009, I have moved to Kobe University and continued using `yokokohji' in my e-mail address like yokokohji(AT)mech.kobe-u.ac.jp.
In summary, please remember that
- My family name is "Yokokohji" in all of my literatures,
But my email address is "yokokoji".- My e-mail address is now "yokokohji" which is consistent with my family name.
P.S.
In some webpages, my name is printed as "Yokokoji". I can find "Yokokoji" even on some of my member's cards! This kind of confusion never ends......

Recently (from April 1, 2000), Japanese government started to allow us to use 'oh' instead of 'o' for prolonged sounds in passport. This is a good news.
